meet oshun

Oshun’s Vanity is inspired by Oshun, the riverine Orisha of love, beauty, and prosperity. Our jewellery honours her legacy, celebrating African and diasporic traditions through luminous, statement pieces. Channel her energy of love, abundance, and protection every time you adorn yourself.

who is oshun?

Oshun, the riverine Orisha* of the Yoruba people, was born in the ancient town of Oshogbo, Nigeria, where her principal shrine is adorned with brass figures. She presides over love, prosperity, beauty, dance, and fertility, her influence flowing across Africa and throughout the diaspora.

Together with her mother-sister, Yemaya, she symbolises creation, abundance, and limitless potential.

her divine beauty

She knows that a reputation for captivating beauty precedes her. Her dark skin is as smooth as velvet, her headdress bursts with vibrant feathers, and her body is draped in resplendent yellow silk. She wears five golden brass bracelets and holds a golden mirror to admire her divine beauty.

Like the river, she is always in motion — eternally pursuing her path, teaching us to embrace life in constant, flowing change.

owner of brass, healer through adornment

As the owner of brass, Oshun turns jewellery into healing medicine. In death, she reigns at the bottom of the river, fully aware that her shimmering wealth invites ripples of jealousy.

Sometimes she appears crowned, sword in hand, ready to protect her children and punish those who act immorally or provoke her wrath. Her presence holds both sweetness and strength — honeyed tenderness and sharp, protective edges.

oshun in the diaspora: maistresse erzulie

Across the waters in Haiti, she re-emerges as Maistresse Erzulie, the divine mistress to whom all jewellery and fine arts belong. Though her affairs may be brief, her purpose is to spread an intense love of life and passion.

With irresistible charm and radiant confidence, Erzulie moves through the world on her own terms, commanding devotion from men and male gods alike. She reminds us that desire, pleasure, and adornment can be sacred.

*Orisha (Òrìṣà): a Yoruba deity and divine messenger of the creator, Olodumare.
