The inspiration

Ma'at was a revered deity and principle in ancient Egyptian culture, considered the daughter of Ra, who emerged from the chaotic waters to create the world. She embodies truth, justice, balance, and order, often depicted holding an Ankh, the symbol of life, in each hand and wearing an ostrich feather on her head.

The 42 laws of Ma'at govern harmony, nature, and human affairs, serving as the foundation of Egyptian society. It was believed that after death, a person's heart would be weighed against the feather of Ma'at. If the heart were lighter, the soul would ascend to eternal life; if heavier, it would be devoured by Ammit, an Egyptian demoness, and cast into darkness. The heart's weight reflected how well the deceased upheld Ma'at's laws during their earthly life.
